Jaffna people fully support peace process - Minister Bakeer Markar

Mass Communication Minister Imthiasz Bakeer Markar opening a branch of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. (ANCL) at Stanley Road, Jaffna yesterday said the encouragement and support given to the Government by the people of Jaffna to enable Prime Minster Ranil Wickremesinghe to cope with the current peace process should be highly commended.

LTTE to start political work in Jaffna islands

The LTTE will commence political work in the islands off Jaffna today, Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) sources told the "Daily News". "The plain clothed, unarmed cadres will enter six of the seven islands on Monday," SLMM spokesman Teitui Torkelsson said adding that the SLMM will monitor the process. However, the monitors will not accompany the LTTE cadres.

Sri Lanka has begun a hard-sell of its green gold, plugging the therapeutic value of tea in health-conscious Western markets, but it is sex appeal that is enticing the big bucks. For Arab and Japanese connoisseurs, not all teas are equal. Some clearly stand out and believers pay 100 times more for the exotic tea in the hope of enjoying that extra zip.
