Hallotrust to clear mines in Jaffna Peninsula

Hallotrust, the Human Right Unit of the European Union will commence a program to clear mines in the Jaffna Peninsula next week.

The Hallotrust organization office was declared open last week at Navalur Road, Nallur in Jaffna. Mr. Simonporter, the Resident Representative of Hallotrust said that their initial intention was to identify dangerous places where mines are found and to clear them immediately. According to its program of activities these mine clearing action, in the initial stages will be carried out in the Northeast provinces. It has also been proposed to extend their mine clearing activities to the Vanni district too, within the period of the next six months.
