At a time when peace efforts are being initiated it is imperative to establish branches of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Peace Secretariat in the North and Eastern provinces.

The Peace Secretariat could make immense contribution towards finding a permanent solution to the ethnic crisis in the country, said the Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Minister of Port Development Shipping Eastern Development and Muslim Religious Affairs Rauff Hakeem at a ceremony to open a branch of the Peace Secretariat of the Muslim Congress in Nintavur in the Digamadulla District Friday July 19 evening.

Speaking after opening the branch Minister Hakeem said that through thirteen such branches functioning in the North-east, the Peace Secretariat has had expanded and de-centralised its activities in collecting and documenting related data and statistics and it would endeavour to realize the rights of Muslims in the north and east in the course of peaceful resolution of the ethnic crisis.

Muslim Congress Digamadulla District Parliamentarian M.H.M. Harees, National Treasurer of the Muslim Congress and Private Secretary to the Minister of Port Development and Shipping M.T. Hassan Ali, Party's Deputy Leader and Private Secretary to the Minister of Eastern Development and Muslim Religious Affairs A.L. Abdul Majeed and National Organiser of the Peace Secretariat A.M.I. Sadique also participated in the opening ceremony.
