Amrith excels in Scotland by Richard Dwight Amrith de Soysa the current amateur Golfing champion of the Royal Colombo Golf Club and, perhaps the youngest at the age of 14 plus since the sport was opened out to the juniors by the club - has talented as he is believing his tender years, evinced an extraordinary flair for Golf. Evidence of his consistency and promise was seen, when Amrith proved once again that he could match up to world standards, when he took part in the 2002 Junior Open Championship played at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Scotland. At this tournament, he did well to achieve second place in his category (handicap 4 - 9) and eighth place overall, where the best juniors from over 40 countries were seen in action. The experience gathered at the championship and the three week session of extensive golf coaching followed in the USA, will stand Amrith in good stead for the future. |
