There is a big demand in European countries for Canteloupe melon which is successfully grown in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts. In a bid to promote the sale of this fruit in the South East Asian countries a consignment of 40 tonnes of the fruit was exported to Hong Kong recently for the first time. The Tess Group of Companies handled this export order. Here Minister of Rural Economy and Deputy Minister of Finance Bandula Gunawardena inspects the consignment of canteloupe melons. 

More power at lower rates soon - Karu Jayasuriya

The government has to quickly increase power generation in the country to meet an expected ten to twelve percent growth in demand in the coming years, Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya told the Daily News.Economic growth expected as the political and security situation stabilises will have more factories and services asking for power and plans are under way to meet this added load, the Minister said in an interview.
