Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will leave for New York today to brief political and business leaders on the peace process and highlight investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe will address the UN General Assembly on September 18 and meet Secretary General Kofi Annan. He will meet the CEOs of the 200 largest corporations in the US on September 19 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. His keynote address will encourage international business leaders to invest in Sri Lanka, taking advantage of peace prospects. Minister G.L. Peiris and Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgesen will provide first-person accounts of the peace negotiations in Thailand. The Prime Minister and the delegation will meet investment bankers the next day. He will also attend a business breakfast organised by the Board of Investment and address senior US editors on the peace process. On September 20, he will meet New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The Prime Minister's New York visit launches a collaborative invest-in-peace initiative between the Sri Lankan government and the United Nations Development Programme. |
