Avissawella group correspondent The donation of spectacles will help the poor people to improve their eye-sight and clear the vision for their daily work. This I consider a great pinkama one could perform in his life time said Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando when he distributed free spectacles to the needy people to mark his 25 years continued service as a Parliamentarian at a meeting held at the Avissawella Town Hall. Vice Chairman Seetavakapura UC Premalal Pinto, Member Seetavakapura UC K. R. Chandrasekara organised the meeting. Minister Fernando said that the Sinhalese people are well known for the cultivation of comparison and greatfulness which are essential factors of life. This noble qualities have helped our people to win the confidence of the world community. Sri Lanka has been well recognised as a greatful country by the Japanese. It was the late President J. R. Jayewardene created this impression among them when he saved Japan from a problem that took place during the second world war. Ever since Japan was a good friend of Sri Lanka and became one of the donor countries. These spectacles I distributed were also donated by the Government of Japan. He said that we must show kindness to our enemy. We must be grateful to all those who help us. He said that he had decided to donate an ambulance to the Seetavakapura UC. Chairman Seetavakapura UC K. D. P. Arsakularatne said that the distribution of free spectacles is a token of good will for the cooperation extended to Minister Tyronne Fernando. His 25 years service as a Parliamentarian is not an easy task. This shows how he has won the confidence of the people. His service was not restricted to Moratuwa. He allocated money for us to put up a play ground. He donated sports material to the youth of this area. Now he had made arrangement to donate an ambulance to the Seetavakapura UC. Vice Chairman Premalal Pinto made the welcome speech. Colombo District MP and Avissawella UNP organiser Jayantha Ketagoda distributed spectacles. |
