The demonstration on September 10 against Privatization and Social repression was very successful. Nearly 5,000 working people have participated in the picket and the march. Though Ranil's government was able to counter the chauvinist-Militaristic forces the social struggle led by the Trade Unions and mass organisation is definitely growing. These organizations have got together to halt the social repressive programme of the government which includes privatisation, removal of pension schemes, revision of Labour Laws etc., This struggle, will grow from sector to sector and from town to town, with the aim of Islandwide one day protest in October. The leaders have clearly indicated this well organized scheme of action. The fact that these organizations of working masses which has stood firm for peace and against the Chauvinist Militaristic forces, are preparing a social struggle against the government exposes the shortsighted programme of the government. We of the New left Front appeal to the masses to join the growing social struggle and to make the October protest day a grand success states, a press release from Dr. Vickramabahu Karunarathne, Presidium Member, New Left Front.
