Dean on the students' apology

Thirteen out of the 20 Ruhuna students who were found guilty for indiscipline have apologised in writing from the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Susarith Mendis on Tuesday, The dean said issuing a press release.

It further stated that the document purported to be apology was non-specific as to who were responsible for the acts of violence and indiscipline and the signatories have not accepted the individual offenses they had been found guilt of.

The signatories have not explicitly apologised for those offenses.

The 'apology' is vaguely worded but defiant in tenor and includes an implicit threat of continuing protest, the dean said.

The accompanying letter signed by the President of the University of Ruhuna Students Union is totally unacceptable as it includes an ultimatum that they would escalate the protest with a 'fast unto death'.

The latter is a desperate attempt to once again mislead the media and the general public at a time when all faculties of the University of Ruhuna including the Faculty of Medicine have been reopened, the dean added.
