Suntel goes to Vavuniya

by Shirajiv Sirimane

Suntel wireless telecommunications said they plan to move into the North East for the first time.

Head of Operation and Maintenance, Udaya de Silva said that they would be launching their services in Vavuniya by the end of this year. "We are hoping to provide our services to a 5 km radius for a start".

He said that the equipment to set up the base station in Vavuniya would cost them $ 120,000. He said that they are also planning to cover other areas soon. "We are hoping to tie up with another operator to provide this service."

Managing Director Suntel, Hugo Cederchiold said that they were closely following the peace process before going all out in the North East. "We are not sure as to what taxes we have to pay. We cannot be paying taxes at two points," he said.
