by Kataragama group correspondent The commuters complain that no CTB buses ply in Ella-Wellawaya road after 6 p.m. and this situation has created untold hardships to passengers who are bound to places like Ella, Bandarawela and Badulla. Jayalath Thaldena, an employee of a Pilgrims Rest in Kataragama told the Daily News that he was a resident of Badulla and once a week he comes to Wellawaya town to take a bus to Badulla but as there are no buses in Ella-Wellawaya road after 6 p.m. many commuters are compelled to travel by the lorries that carry sand paying high charges. Lorry drivers also don't like to take passengers in their lorries so these commuters have to get the assistance of the police officers to urge the drivers to take them. He further said that those commuters who get stranded in Wellawaya without buses have to spend the night at Wellawaya bus stand at the risk of their belongings being robbed by the thieves as there were several such cases reported. The police officers also don't like to force the lorry drivers to take these stranded passengers due to the lootings and the robberies in the country. People who visit the Badulla general hospital to see the patients also have become helpless because of this reason. The authorities must take prompt action to solve this problem, he said. |
