Murder case committed to High Court

Kuliyapitiya Additional District Judge Jagath A. Kahandagamage committed the trial against the accused in the Giriulla murder case to Kurunegala High Court. In this case the Giriulla Police charged S. M. Dharmadasa alias Lal of Marandagolla, Giriulla for committing the murder of Janaka Sampath also of Marandagolla on March 21st at Giriulla Town. According to the prosecution Dharmadasa had stabbed Sampath at Giriulla Town in the night of the day of incident and fled. The Police were informed of the incident through phone.

When the police party led by the OIC Sanath Wicremasooriya went to the scene the body was seen lying on the road in a pool of blood. The OIC sent the injured man to Dambadeniya Hospital with a police officer. That officer came back about fifteen minutes later and informed the OIC that the injured man was dead.

The absconding suspect was arrested on March, 25th three days after the incident. The Additional District Judge having recorded the evidence of Rohitha Vidyaratna of Giriulla, W. Lalitha of Marandagolla and OIC Bingiriya (then Giriulla) Police IP Sanath Wicremasooriya at the non-summary proceedings observed that the evidence given before him was sufficient to indict the accused and committed the trial against him to Kurunegala High Court.

The Attorney at Law Manoj Thalgoflapitiya prosecuted and Attorney Chandrakeerthi Rankoth defended.
