by Kegalle special correspondent Utilizing millions of rupees by the Kandyan Rural Rehabilitation Department, several motorable roads in the Kegalle area were constructed and completed during the past several months, and they were opened to public transport, a few days ago by the Wayamba Development Minister and Kegalle district parliamentarian Jayatilake Podinilame and the Central Region Development Minister Tissa Attanayake. Puwakdeniya-Dimbulgomuwa, and Rideekotuwa-Hathnagoda routes were opened to public transport last week. These areas belong to both Kegalle and Galigomuwa Pradeshiya Sabha areas. On the opening day itself, a common transport system was initiated bringing about much convenience to the residents of these areas including hundreds of school-goers, who otherwise had to walk several miles to get into buses to go to schools in Kegalle town and Pinnawala Central School in the Rambukkana area. The residents in several villages such as Puwakdeniya, Dimbulgomuwa, Nilwakka, Deldeniya, Gracetath Colony, and Kolongolle are benefited owing to the construction of these roads. There are over one thousand families living in these localities. Owing to the construction of Rideekotuwa-Hathnagoda road, 950 families living in Galigomuwa, Rideekotuwa, Hathnagoda and Pussalle areas are immensely benefited. With the opening of these roads and initiating transport facilities on that very day itself, Minister Jayatilake Podinilame said, on a few months after assuming power, the Ranil Wickremesinghe government has done so much of work everywhere for the good of the people. |
