by Sarath Malalasekera The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) will launch a Child protection awareness campaign to coincide with the International Children's Day today, October 1. The NCPA authorities said that in order to prevent or minimise child abuse in Sri Lanka the problem needs to be addressed by raising public awareness. Most people are unaware that child abuse encompasses a wider range of issues than sexual abuse. Major publications have joined hands with the NCPA in this awareness project by releasing awareness posters, cartoons and other publicity material designed to generate heightened mass public awareness on the subject. Popular local artists have assisted the project by voicing a theme song on Children's rights which will be aired by most channels on the International Children's Day. This theme song is performed by Sunil Perera, Bathiya and Santhush, Nalin Perera, Shane Berenger, Mariazelle Gunatilleke, Kithsiri Jayasekera, Mahinda Kumar, Niyakala, Ruwanie Kaushalya and Dilki Dharmadasa. |
