Maharagama special orrespondent "We have a long standing history of peace and unity between Sinhalese and Tamils. It lasted for thousands of years. Unfortunately due to the tug-of-war of the power craving Sinhala as well as Tamil politicians, it was shattered and the disharmony and violence prevailed in the country. Art is the most applicable "Manttara" to reharmonise the Sinhala and Tamil ethnic groups, said the director of the Ranga Kala Kendraya Rev. Fr. M. M. Saveri. He made this statement speaking at the 5 day workshop and training camp organised by the Ranga Kala Kendraya at Boy's Town, Ragama. Four hundred Tamil and Sinhala boys and girls from all over the country participated at the camp. Speaking further Rev. Father Saveri said: "Big or small any ethnic group prefers to live in their own culture. Culture is the mother of a race. Any ethnic group likes to rely on their own language, religion, lifestyle and customs. This is a universal truth. If Sinhala people respect Tamil culture and if Tamils respect Sinhala culture, that is the golden path to peace, harmony and prosperity of all. The Assistant Directress of Ranga Kala Kendraya Miss Premalatha Rajitha. "Our utmost motive of Ranga Kala Kendraya is to rebuild the shattered friendship bridge between North and South. Enough of war for us. From North to South and South to North we carry the message of Peace through arts." My father is Sinhala and mother is Tamil. I belong to Sinhala as well as the Tamil race. Let us sacrifice our lives to bring peace for the next generation. At least let them live in peace and harmony without war and violence. |
