Farook off to Malaysia The Football Federation of Sri Lanka has nominated N. T. Farook, soccerite and grade I referee, a football administrator from Batticaloa District to participate in a Football Administration Course in Malaysia. This course is sponsored by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) from 20.10.2002 to 26.10.2002. Farook is an employee of the People's Bank attached to the Regional Head office, Batticaloa and captained the People's Bank Soccer team which toured to Maldive Islands. He started his career as a under-13 player for his school, Akkaraipattu Muslim Central College (National School). He then joined Akkaraipattu Bullets Sports Club which made him one of the renowned Goal keepers. He then played for Akkaraipattu Youths Sports Club, Ampara District side, Jaffna St. Henrys, Jaffna Yaal Muslims, Batticaloa Singing Fish, Kattankudy Sunrise, and finally Batticaloa District side as goal keeper. His performance as goal keeper against the visiting West German side was a superb performance in 1978 and was later known as "keeper Farook". Having left the playing field Farook continued in the field of refereeing and rose to the rank of grade 1 referee. He took part in several seminars conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka with FIFA Instructors from Sri Lanka and abroad. He has also followed Football Coaching Courses conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka. Farook functioned as the Secretary of the Batticaloa District Football Association for 4 consecutive years and vice president and chairman competition committee. Presently Farook serves on the Referee Committee of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka and also as Chairman of the Referees Committee of Batticaloa District Football Association and Co-ordinator for Schools' Football Competitions.
