Soccerites stage sit down strike

by our Badulla Sports Correspondent

Second "Sit Down" Stirke at the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla forced the Referee to abandon a Badulla League Football encounter last Wednesday.

The team, which went on "Sit Down" Strike on the previous occasion, was fined and the victory was awarded to the opponent team.

Last Wednesday Old Duthians Sports Club was leading by 2 goals to nil in their encounter against Al Adhan Sports Club. There was a heavy Rain prior to the encounter and it was alleged that the officials arrived late and the match commenced around 5 p.m. Ten minutes before the final whistle Al Adhan S.C. appealed for bad light but the referee continued play. Just 3 minutes before the final whistle once again Al Adhan S.C. appealed for bad light and when the referee requested them to continue play the players sat on the grounds.

The Referee had no alternative but to abandoned the game and reported the matter to the Budulla Football League.
