Exchange Control Act : Limitations and Opportunities The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has taken the initiative to educate the business community on the proposed changes to the Exchange Control Act by way of a seminar. The seminar on Exchange Control Act: Limitations and Opportunities" on October 28 from 9am to 12.30 pm will discuss a host of topics including what are the opportunities and limitations for conduct of business under the existing exchange control regulations and what reforms are desired to promote trade and investment. Capital account liberalisation measures are undertaken through the relaxation of exchange control regulations. These measures are very important to the business community to meet the challenges of the globalised markets of today. The objective of the seminar is to enlighten he business community of the existing Exchange Control Act, recent amendments introduced to the Act and to identify/discuss areas that need to be liberalised for the development of business. The seminar is chaired by Nihal Fonseka, General Manager/CEO of the DFCC Bank and consists of two presentations and will be followed by a panel discussion/open forum. A S de Alwis, Deputy Controller of the department of Exchange Control will speak on "Understanding the Exchange Control Regulations" and Chandra Jayaratne, Immediate Past Chairman of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will speak on "Further liberalisations desired to promote trade and investment". The panel consists of H. A G Hettiarachchi, Controller, Department of Exchange Control Dr. H N Thenuwara, Deputy Director Research, Central Bank of Sri Lanka and R M B Senanayake, Economist. The seminar will impart knowledge to understand the existing regulations and to make better use of the measures taken towards further liberalisation to promote business.
