New challenges for private sector The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will hold its third Annual Business Convention on Competitiveness and Change - New Challenges for the Private Sector on November 1 and 2. This year's business convention of the Chamber, running over two days, will focus on the strategic directions that private sector firms in Sri Lanka are taking or can take to compete more effectively in the global market place and to enhance national competitiveness. Today's business arena is global with information moving throughout at the speed of light. This has raised the level of competition for everyone creating more challenges and also more opportunities. Competitiveness is the ability to thrive in this new, fast-changing global market. To achieve and sustain a significant rate of economic growth, Sri Lanka must become globally competitive. The keynote speaker at the conference will be J. Nicholas Hahn, Former Chief Executive of Cotton Inc. USA. He will speak on "Competitiveness and the Global Economy". The technical sessions will comprise seven sessions spread over two days with reputed international and local speakers, many of them who are business leaders in industry and commerce. Session One will be on "Competitive Challenges and opportunities in the Global Market Place" and will have three speakers on the topics WTO and Surging China End of MFA and Impact on the Garment Industry; Indo-Lanka Free Trade Agreement and Practical Issues. |
