Self employment training for disabled soldiers The government's main objective is to bring peace while protecting the sovereignty and the rights of all sections of the people, said Prof. G.L. Peiris, Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy & Investment Promotion and Minister of Constitutional Affairs. The Minister said the country has arrived at a significant moment as never before in its history. Soliders of all forces should receive the gratitude of the entire nation for having served with dedication. It is a timely need to attend to the needs of the disabled soldiers," the Minister said at a ceremony organised at Senapura, Anuradhapura to launch a project at the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army. The programme was organised by the Industrial Development Board on the direction of Prof. Peiris. It is intended to provide training to disabled soldiers and their products to be purchased by the Army. The Minister emphasised the importance of good qualities such as gratitude. Gratitude, is a quality which enhances our cultural values. Honour those who deserve honour, pay tribute to those deserving are some of the teachings in Buddhist philosophy", he said. The 19 million population of Sri Lanka should honour and show gratitude to the small numbers in the Forces and police. If not for them, we would not have had a country, its territorial integrity or any future. Whatever financial commitment the government may have the needs of the war heroes are a priority. The Ministry together with the IDB has commenced this project to train and enable the soldiers on industrial and entrepreneurial activity," Prof. Peiris said. The Minister thanked the IDB, and Army for getting this programme off the ground. |
