Commenting on the Oslo political support conference, Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgesen expressed optimism that it has laid a sound foundation for the second conference scheduled to be held in Japan, states a media release by Prime Minister's Office. Helgesen, addressing the Sri Lankan mediamen at the Foreign Ministry of Norway has observed that he never expected the two conflicting parties to talk about political solutions at the very outset of the discussion, but they did so around the second session of the first round of talks. This was an encouraging trend. The Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister observed that the two parties who were fighting for two decades are now at the negotiating table seeking international support for their country's welfare. Both the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE agree that in spite of many obstacles, their objective of lasting peace could be achieved through peaceful means. It is a good example for other countries to follow, stated Deputy Minister Helgesen. |
