by Kushani Ratnayake Tickets for the much awaited UB 40 mega concert will be available at the Ministry of Commerce, CWE and Cargills outlets, SriLankan Airlines offices, City Hotels and MTV and YES FM stations. The principal sponsor of the event is Caltex while ANCL, Galadari, Hemtours, SriLankan Airlines, Stassens and Galle Face Hotel will also act as sponsors, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake told a press conference yesterday. There has been a huge response but the organising committee will issue only 60,000 tickets - 500 tickets will be available for Rs.15,000 each, 1,000 tickets for Rs 5,000 each, 3,500 tickets for Rs 2,500 and the rest will be sold at Rs 300. A certain number of tickets have to be sold at a high price to cover the cost of the concert which will provide great entertainment to everyone, Minister Karunanayake who has lobbied private sector sponsorship for the event said. In all there will be 5000 seats. Ten mega TV Screens will be installed at the park to give all spectators an opportunity to enjoy the concert. The four-hour concert will commence at 7.30 pm. There will be an opening 90-minute act by Bathe and Santush. "The concert will promote Sri Lanka as a safe destination to the rest of the world and we hope that it will open the eyes of the foreign market," he said. According to the Minister, UB 40 has also issued a press release in England mentioning their performance in Sri Lanka. International telecast rights will also be sold. |
