Pray for peace this Ramazan - PM "I am happy to send this message of greetings to the Muslims of Sri Lanka who are celebrating Eid-Ul-Fitr, after faithfully observing the fast during the month of Ramazan, states Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in a Ramazan Festival message issued yesterday. Fasting for a whole month indeed teaches people self-discipline, perseverance and will develop qualities that would be of immense help to understand the plight of the less fortunate. This year's Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations coincides with a very important juncture in the history of our motherland, that is, we are at the brink of achieving everlasting peace after a protracted ethnic conflict that has brought untold miseries to all communities of this country. Indeed Muslims have offered prolonged prayers during this blessed month, invoking the blessings of the Almighty Allah for the dawn of peace and prosperity. May their prayers be answered. The Quran teaches the Muslims to achieve peace through the art of negotiations and Prophet Mohamed led the Muslims from the front by displaying high standards of statesmanship and offering compromise in achieving this noble aim. During the month of Ramadhan the spirit of brotherhood is strengthened, the old rivalries are forgiven and forgotten and the family relationships are revived, by visiting each other and offering greetings. I extend my greetings and best wishes to all Sri Lankan Muslims both here and abroad. I wish a happy Eid-Ul-Fitr to all." |
