Yukiyo Hanthoyama, Leader of the Japanese Democratic Party and the Leader of the Opposition of the Japanese Parliament said that it was a great pleasure to have met with the Prime Minister of a country like Sri Lanka before he resigns as the Leader of the Japanese Democratic Party on December 13. The Sri Lankan delegation headed by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met Hanthoyama in the Kokobuki Hall of the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo. Recalling the history Mr. Hanthoyama said the great service done for Japan by late Mr. J.R. Jayawardena at San Francisco Conference in 1951, is written indelibly in hearts of Japanese people. The Prime Minister thanked the Japanese Leader of the Opposition for endeavouring to meet the Sri Lankan delegation even at a turbulent time like present. Ranil Wickremesinghe updated Mr. Hanthoyama on Sri Lankan peace process and current situation of the country. Hanthoyama said that he was very pleased about Sri Lanka's new approach to peace and further articulated the wish of Japan to see not only peace prevailing in Sri Lanka but also in entire Asia. |
