Apology to Mr. Malik Samarawickrama

Reference the news item "UNP Tycoon allegedly involved in massive garment fraud" published in the Daily News of 21.05.2001 when Mr. Lucian Rajakarunanayake was the Chairman of The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited and when Mr. Geoff Wijesinghe was the Editor of the Daily News.

The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, states that there is no truth whatever in the allegations contained in the article and unconditionally withdraws all allegation made against Mr. Malik Samarawickrama for the reason that they are false and unfounded and hereby tenders an unreserved, unconditional and unqualified apology to Mr. Malik Samarawickrama, for the pain of mind and loss of reputation caused to him, consequent to the publication of the said news item.

The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited hereby states that the allegations attributed expressly or impliedly in the said news item to Mr. Malik Samarawickrama are incorrect and without a basis and therefore the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited hereby unconditionally and unreservedly withdraws these allegations.
