Awards for artistes

The 18th Kala Bhooshana Awards presentation organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs under the Cultural Affairs Division of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs will be held at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre, Colombo 7 on December 26 at 10 am, Director, Cultural Affairs, M. Lakshman Perera said.

He said the award presentation will be organised in coordination with the Departments of Hindu Affairs and Muslim Affairs. Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodithuwakku, Hindu Affairs Minister T. Maheswaran and Port Development, Shipping, Eastern Development and Muslim Affairs Minister Rauff Hakeem will also be present.

Two hundred and ten Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim artistes selected for 2001 and 2002 will receive Kala Bhooshana Awards. Each recipient will receive the felicitation award, a certificate and a fixed deposit of Rs. 10,000 from Bank of Ceylon.

The award recipients belong to different fields such as poetry, dancing, painting, music, drum playing, puppetry, rituals, mat industry and other traditional indigenous artistic fields.
