by Kandy staff correspondent Indictments were served on Wednesday by Kandy High Court Judge Sisira de Abrew on Minister of Co-operatives, a Kandy district UNP MP and three others in the Kurunduwatte murder case. The accused are A.R.M. Abdul Cader, Keheliya Rambukwela, Peter Gangahagedera, Sisira Kumara Aluthgamage and T.N. Miskin alias Kalu Malli. They are charged with 13 counts including unlawful assembly, being members of unlawful assembly, causing hurt to several persons, attempted murder and murder of W.M. Wimalasuriya of Ambalapitiya by shooting him at Kurunduwatte on March 10, 1999. State Counsel Dishna Warnakula informed court that Attorney-at-Law K. Rajapaksa has been assigned for the accused. Answering court, the accused said the trial be held without jury. There are 55 witnesses and 18 productions including firearms listed in the indictments. The judge released each accused on Rs. 7,500 cash bail with two sureties. The accused gave their fingerprints to court sergeant. He also issued summons on witnesses and fixed trial for September 1 next year. Daya Perera PC with Kalinga Indatissa, Dayananda Ratwatte, Anoja Premaratne, U. Ranawake and Abdul Radi appeared for the accused. |
