The Colombo Stock Exchange turnover shot up to Rs. 118.1 million yesterday from Rs. 20 million on Friday, largely attributable to the sale of 67,000 shares of Bukit Dhara Sdn Bhd of Malaysia at a floor price of Rs. 901. The transaction yielded Rs. 61 million, accounting for 51 per cent of the sales yesterday. Bukit Dhara Sdn Bhd of Malaysia is a Carsons Cumberbatch Group owned palm oil plantation in Malaysia which is also listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. What has effectively happened is that a Malaysian Fund which had these quantum of shares has effectively transferred them to another Fund. It was more an internal transfer, Carsons Group Director Mano Selvanathan told the Daily News last night. In a similar situation, there was also a sake of 153,300 shares of Lion Brewery sold which closed in at Rs. 71. Lion Brewery is also a member of the Carsons Cumberbatch Group. Of the other trades, there was a slab of 25,800 shares of Commercial Bank sold which closed in at Rs. 200, a 37,300 slab of Hayleys which closed in at Rs.138.75, a slab of Rs. 121,200 slab of John Keells Holdings Ltd which closed in at Rs. 73.50 and 54,500 shares of NDB Bank which closed in at Rs. 14.25. However, the All Share Price Index fell 0.11 points to 788.8 yesterday while the Milanka Price Index also fell 1.9 points to 1324.3 points. (RL) |
