by Tharika Goonathilake The venue for the mega Peace Concert featuring UB40 on December 14 has been shifted to the R. Premadasa Stadium (Khettarama) to accommodate the huge crowds expected for the show-the biggest musical event in recent showbiz history. The decision to shift from the earlier venue - the Parliamentary Grounds - has been taken considering the huge demand for tickets and the R. Premadasa stadium's ideal locality and capacity to accommodate the crowds. "Extensive preparations were made to develop the Parliamentary Ground Complex, the initial host venue, on an international level but the organising committee is not willing to risk the situation," committee member and Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs Media Director Jumar Preena told the Daily News yesterday. Preena said that the idea behind the peace concert was to give locals a chance to enjoy the season and see the `Reggae Kings' in action, while celebrating Sri Lanka's peace initiative. The 30 member UB40 troupe with family members, are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow afternoon. They will be given a traditional welcome at the BIA. The event is funded entirely by the private sector. |
