Paramedics to continue strike

by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi

The meeting between the Joint Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine and Minister P. Dayaratne aimed at ending the current strike action ended in deadlock yesterday with the JCPSM deciding to continue with their strike.

The striking JCPSM members claim that they did not receive a direct assurance from the Minister or any Senior Health Ministry Officials pertaining to their grievances.

The JCPSM are demanding the Health Authorities not to implement the Junaid Committee report which seeks to rectify the salary anomalies in the Health sector. The Union launched their strike on November 28. A spokesman for the JCPSM said that their members will be meeting again on Wednesday to decide on a future course of action if their demands were not met by then. They had however decided to resume emergency services until then. They had also decided to write to the President and the Prime Minister to intervene in this matter.
