ANCL religious ceremony in Kataragama

The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) will undertake a special programme in the sacred city of Kataragama on December 31 where Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya will be the chief guests.

The National Jak Development Project (NJDP) will distribute 1000 Jak saplings among schoolchildren under the National Jak Development Project (NJDP) on December 31 morning. Lake House will gift a consignment of white material to 850 daham pasal children and 150 daham pasal teachers.

The Kataragama Pradeshiya Sabha will also distribute white material to pre-school children while the Public Trustee's Department will distribute 1000 Buddha-statues.

In a series of programmes lined up for the day, a co-operative store and a post office will be opened for the benefit of the people of Nagaveediya, Gothamigama and Gaminipura.

The NJDP in association with the Kataragama Pradeshiya Sabha will plant 100 jak saplings along roadways leading to the Kiri Vehera and Kataragama Maha Devalaya.

ANCL under the direction of Chairman Attorney-at-Law Nalin Ladduwahetty will switch-on the specially provided 200 electric lamps to the peacock-sculptures around the Kataragama Maha Devale.

ANCL will provide a heel-dana for 50 Buddhist monks on January 1. Lake House will also decorate areas around the Maha Devale and the Kiri Vehera with Buddhist flags and streamers for the two-day ceremonies.

The programme is part of the week long religious and other ceremonies commencing at the Kataragama Sacred city from December 23 to bless the country and the people. The programme has been organised by Minister Jayasuriya under the direction of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe with the blessings of Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharadhipathi Ven. Aluthwewa Soratha Thera.

A special highlight will be the provision of electricity to the Kiri Vehera by the Ministry of Power and Energy.
