by Hambantota special correspondent Western Region Development Minister M. H. Mohamed, who was on an official tour to the Hambantota district, visited the new market complex and the modern bus stand, on which the work had stopped owing to lack of funds. He told the Daily News that he had two options to complete these buildings, one to persuade the Cabinet to allocate some funds to complete these buildings or to release some funds from the decentralised budget allocations of the UDA for this project. Minister Mohamed said, that he was surprised to see these buildings, which were almost completed and felt that these buildings were very important for the development of the Hambantota town. He said, I noticed small business structures have come up in the town and all these will be shifted to the new building once it is completed and it would be an asset to this area. According to the officials of the UDA, we need Rs. 40 to 45 million to complete the building. The completion of new market complex and the new bus stand would pave the way to ease the congestion in the town to a certain extent, the minister added. Several officials of the Ministry of Western Region Development were also present. |
