Notice issued on Rohan Perera, nine directors

Maligakanda Magistrate and Additional District Judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena has issued notice on Rohan Perera former Chairman Pramuka Bank and nine other Directors and ordered them to appear before her on December 13.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) probing the alleged malpractices committed by Pramuka Bank recorded the statements of Rohan Perera and nine other directors.

The Court also directed them not to leave the country.

Law College Awards ceremony

The Sri Lanka Law College will hold its annual awards ceremony on Thursday December 12, at the main Hall of the Law College at 3 p.m.

Mrs. Dhara S. Wijayatilleke, secretary Ministry of Justice, Law Reforms and National Integration will be the chief guest. 

Top golfer critical

Internationally renowned golfer K. Nandasena Perera admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital with stab injuries is is in a critical condition, hospital sources said.

Nandasena, 51, was stabbed on Saturday around 8.30 pm while he was on his way home after practices at the Narahenpita Golf Grounds. He was on foot along Shaakya Road, Bandaranayakepura when three unidentified robbers in a three wheeler had demanded money from Nandasena.

Nandasena who refused to hand over the money was stabbed and robbed. Private firm workers had informed Welikade Police about the incident.

Welikade Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident. Police recovered Rs 16,000 and US$385 stolen from the victim. Police also recovered a sharp knife used by the suspects. Nandasena regarded as one of the best golf players produced by Sri Lanka, won a silver medal at the 11th Asian Games in China. AW

Pension scheme deadline extended

The deadline granted to 150,000 female public servants to enter the Widowers and Orphans Pensions scheme (WOP) has been extended until February 28, 2003 by the Ministry of Public Administration, Management and Reforms.

Out of 350,000 females employed in the public service only 200,000 have obtained membership of the scheme. "We hope that a large number of female public servants who have not yet entered the scheme will not miss this golden opportunity, considering the future prospects of their families," Public Administration, Management and Reforms Minister Vajira Abeywardena told the Daily News.

Annan salutes Lanka, LTTE on peace deal

NEW YORK, Monday (AFP) UN Secretary General Kofi Annan applauded on Sunday a peace deal between Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam aimed at ending three decades of civil war.

Annan "lauds both parties for their commitment to the peace process and Norway for its role as facilitator," spokesman Fred Eckhard said in a brief statement.

PS member shot dead

Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha PA member Rohana Wilathgamuwe was shot dead at his residence in Navagamuwa by three persons travelling in a van.

The incident took place on Sunday at around 9.30 pm while Wilathgamuwe and his family were watching television. Navagamuwa Police suspect the shooting was carried out by an underworld gang.

Wilathgamuwe's mother told police that there were no previous incidents prior to this.Wilathgamuwe was elected in the previous provincial election to represent Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha.

No arrests have been made.
