Human rights posers for the State

Renewed clashes between the Sri Lankan military forces and the LTTE, as well as prolonged political infighting in Colombo created an atmosphere wherein gross human rights abuses, including indiscriminate bombing and shelling, killings, disappearances, torture, and recruitment of child soldiers continued in various forms. This overshadowed other developments and generated serious abuses.
