Gas prices will be reduced soon with the implementation of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act creating competition among service providers, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake told Parliament yesterday. The Minister made these observations responding to PA MP Richard Pathirana when he requested the Minister to take necessary steps to reduce the gas price soon as it causes an increase of prices of cooked meals too. The Minister said the enactment of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act enables the Government to create competition among service providers to benefit consumers. "As a result the prices of essential items will be reduced soon," the Minister added. "We cannot give a time frame but we are sure the gas prices will be reduced soon for the first time," the Minister added. |
