Deputy High Commissioner for Australia in Sri Lanka Kate Logan will be the chief guest at the award ceremony of the Australian National Chemistry Quiz Competition which was conducted by the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon for the sixth time in Sri Lanka in July 2002. Mrs. Y. Mahesan, Chairman, Manthai Salt Ltd and former Government Analyst will be the Guest of Honour. The award ceremony will be held at Vidya Mandiraya on January 24, states a press release issued by the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon. In a news release issued by the Institute of Chemistry the overall Quiz Co-ordinator, Prof J. N. O. Fernando stated that 52 students presently in the Advanced Level Classes will receive plaques, prizes & certificates donated by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon. Amongst them, seven students from four schools including three outstation schools will receive Best Performer Prizes for correctly answering all the questions at the contest. The Institute of Chemistry has recognized this splendid achievement by giving all of them scholarships to follow free of charge the Institute's well recognized Graduateship Courses in Chemistry. This will enable these seven brilliant students to become Graduate Chemists by 2007. The Institute has now invited applications from students in Year 11 and 12 for the seventh Quiz contest to be held in July 2003 at various centers throughout Sri Lanka including Jaffna for the first time. |
