Gunawardhana (PA) disagreeing that the most corrupt department is Police as reported in the media said in Trincomalee district, Police both in the SSP Divisions of Trincomalee and Kantale performed their duties much to the satisfaction of the people. The population of Trincomalee district consists of Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim people and it was once a conflict area. Despite all odds, Police, both officers and men have been doing their very best to help people. In general Police in Trincomalee district are not corrupt, he said. Mr. Gunawardhana said so at the last meeting of the district Co-ordinating Committee for the year 2002 held at the District Secretariat on Friday. A resolution in this regard moved by the Gunawardhana was unanimously adopted. Trincomalee District MP K.M. Thawfeek (SLMC) Co-Chairman chaired the meeting. District Secretary N.P.K. Nelumdeniya said during the year 2002 Trincomalee District received Rs. 17,555m under the decentralised budget and a sum of Rs. 836,000 was remaining unspent. New work projects were decided in respect of this amount. Mr. Thawfeek said though funds were received late, still about 90% of the decided work projects have been completed. Both Thawfeek and Gunawardhana congratulated all officials including the District Secretary for their excellent performance. |
