By Our Parliamentary Correspondents A loaf of bread, this time a sliced one - was visible yesterday in Parliament in the House which was debating the Consumer Affairs Authority Bill. PA MP Dinesh Gunawardena who brought a sliced loaf of bread wrapped in a newspaper sheet to the Chamber in the afternoon kept it on the table of PA MP Jagath Pushpakumara who was on his feet castigating the Government for the escalating prices of essential consumer goods specially flour. Then, Pushpakumara went on distributing slices of bread among the Opposition benches and threw several slices towards the Government side apparently targeting Minister Ravi Karunanayake, but they landed on the table of another Minister. Chief Opposition Whip Mangala Samaraweera and MP Mahinda Amaraweera were seen eating bread inside the House. Later in the day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister who described this incident as misbehaviour in the House requested the Chair to conduct an inquiry. |
