by Sarath Malalasekera Tecla Dilrukshi Perera who appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on a directive by the court yesterday told the CID which is probing the news item regarding an attempt to assassinate President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga published in the 'Lakmina' weekend Sinhala newspaper, that she was the publisher of the Lakmina until December 12, 2002. On a request made by her to husband Sripathy Sooriyarachchi, Ranjith Silva was appointed publisher of the Lakmina newspaper after December 12, 2002, she told the CID. Ranjith Silva's statements was recorded by the CID earlier. CID investigations revealed that Dilrukshi Perera was the publisher of the Lakmina newspapers on December 15, the day the news item appeared. According to the Press Council and the Registrar of Companies, the publisher of the Lakmina newspaper is Tecla Dilrukshi Perera, the investigators said. Freelance journalist Nuwan Nirodha who appeared before the CID on Wednesday told the CID that he wrote the story in question on the direction of Ranjith Silva and handed it over to Ranjith Silva. Another employee of the 'Lakmina' newspaper, Waranga Vithanachchi yesterday appeared before the CID and made a statement. The CID commenced investigations into the news item on a directive by Interior and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunga. A statement from the Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa was recorded earlier. |
