HNB edge out Singer

by Pelham Juriansz

Hatton National Bank with a solitary goal by Marlon Muerling in the 26th minute secured a victory in the first match of the new year at the Astro Turf when they defeated a much depleted Singer outfit by 1 goal to nil. The match began late at 5.30 whereas the scheduled time was 5.15 and as much as 12 minutes was consumed for the break between the halves, which resulted in the match finishing at 6.45 p.m.

The second half of the match continued in the same lacklustre fashion and Singers must be kicking their heels that they missed about three opportunities of scoring and winning the game in spite of their lack of numbers.

Further, the fixtures for January 13 between HNB "A" and Arpico has been postponed to February 27 and the one between Singer and Seylan to be played on the following day January 14 to March 3.

The "A" Division will consist of Browns Group, Commercial Bank, Hatton National Bank "A", Seylan Bank, John Keells Group, Airport and Aviation and Singer(Sri Lanka).

The "A" division hockey Tournament started in 1953 with Heaths winning the inaugural one and Commercial Bank are the defending Champions.
