The HNB sponsored, MCA 'C' Division 50-overs league tournament got off to a start last week-end with a card of 6 matches.

HNB 'C' (defending champions), Sampath Bank 'B' (2002 runners-up), Nawaloka Group (last year's 'D' Div. winners), Airport and Aviation, Swarnakalum Group and Metropolitan Group, were the first to register wins.

Weekend's batting honours went to HNB's late order batsman S. Pinto, who steered his team to victory with a defiant 71-runs over Arpico.

Best bowling feat came from Arpico's Ruwan Kariyawasam (4 for 15 in 10 overs), who put the spanner into HNB's well-oiled batting machine.

Airport and Aviation registered the highest total - 294 for 8, which was well supported by 42 wide deliveries bowled by Lanka Oberoi.

The tournament will be continued this week-end, and on Thai Pongal day and Poya day with a heavy card of 12 matches.
