The University Grants Commission UGC Chairman and officials will visit the Sabaragamuwa University on February 19 and meet the Vice Chancellor, Deans of Faculties and student representatives to solve problems including fraud, corruption and malpractices in the Sabaragamuwa University. This is following Tertiary Education and Training Minister Kabeer Hashim's discussions with the UGC Chairman and officials on February 3. The Special Commission appointed to investigate fraud and corruption in the Sabaragamuwa University has submitted its report to the Ministry while the UGC has taken steps to solve some of grievances such as medical facilities, hostel accommodation, water supply and extension of the Applied Science Degree Course for four years. Rs.3.5 million for building renovation, Rs.20 million for construction of new building, Rs.10 million for the supply of IT equipment and services and Rs.105.3 million to meet recurring expenditure has been allocated to the University for 2003, Univistry sources said. |
