Against a brief survey of the existing position on the white paper recommendations on English teaching it is opportune to indicate a few guidelines on the teaching of English in general and in the school set-up in particular. Teaching of English should commence as early as possible-as early as year I, even; it might even be highly beneficial to go a step further and introduce English at the pre-school level.
