Kasthuriratne maintains Grand Prix lead The Lectra Grand Prix Monthly Medal completed its ninth round of competition on 23rd February 2003, at the Victoria Golf Club, Digana, Kandy. With more than 75 per cent of Lectra Grand Prix completed, a tussle has developed at the top of the board as the "Steady Eddies" failed to get to grips with the course this month. S. Kasthuriratne's enormous lead was effected slightly only as Priyantha Kumara and Hama shot poor rounds. In complete contrast Thejan de Silva finally struck out with a magnificent Nett 6 under the walk away with his first major title at Victoria. Thejan who started Golf at Victoria had remained true to his roots, solemnly missing a competition. Nonoyama was again runner-up this month and being a new member he has consistently scored on each outing. Sally Collins made one of her few appearances at the Club and came in third. The presentation ceremony was presided over by Mrs. Eve Holloway, who kindly presented all the prizes and medals to the winners. So with only three months count down and the course drying out, it is still anyone's game. The Lectra Monthly Medal Grand Prix points table after nine months of this competition stands as follows: S. Kasthuriratne - 416, Priyantha Kumara - 289, K. Hama - 272, Peter Bright - 257, Nimal Wettamuny - 247, Rohan de Silva - 205, Thejan de Silva - 175, T. Okada - 163, Sidath Wettamuny - 100, Tony Witham - 84. |
