Two policemen killed in bomb blasts in Bangladesh

DHAKA, March 11 (AFP) - Two Bangladeshi policemen were killed and two others were injured after unidentified men exploded home-made bombs at a crowded place in southwestern Bangladesh, a television network reported Tuesday.

The policemen were on petrol duty when the bombs exploded Tuesday evening in the regional city of Khulna, 136 kilometers (85 miles) from capital Dhaka, ATN Bangla reported, adding two of them died instantly.

Police have begun an investigation.

No further details were available and no one claimed responsibility for the blasts which came about a week after a police officer was killed and several others injured in similar bomb attack on an international trade fair in the same violence-prone port city.

It also followed Friday's bomb attack outside a mosque near Khulna that left four people injured, including a local union leader.

Unidentified men detonated a homemade bomb just outside the mosque in Baghmara village just as worshippers were leaving, police earlier said, adding Mohiuddin, 45, the secretary of the district bus owners association, and two others were remained in hospital in a serious condition, while an eight-year-old boy was treated and released.
