This was solely due to our concentration on implementing the peace process. Now we have visited here to look into the shortcomings of the people and to have a clear picture of the people of the area. Now we have understood the present situation and the pulse of the people who supported us. Dr. Rajitha Senaratna said so at the UNP rally of the Ampara District Coastal area, held at Kalmunai Mahmood Bhalika Ladies College Grounds. Ministers Thilak Marapana, John Amaratunga, Vajira Abeywardene, A. H. M. Azwer, T. Maheswaran, P. Dayaratne, D. M. Bandaranayake, UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrema and Party Secretary General N. Senerath Kappukotuwa were also present at this rally. He said the Ministerial teams who are with us today will submit a comprehensive report to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who instructed us to visit these areas. Our visits to these areas would be in future on regular basis and all shortcomings would be attended then and there. So no one has to worry about it, he said. Dr. Rajitha Seneratna during the course of his speech also reiterated that only through peace the country would prosper and on this belief we are all out to work for peace sincerely and constructively. At this juncture we also gratefully remember that whole-hearted support of the SLMC to the United Front Government. Touching upon the peace process, Dr. Rajitha Seneratna said Prime Minister is very carefully and sincerely going towards the peace process. Minister of Interior John Amaratunga said Sri Lanka Police is not for one party but to serve and protect all whether he or she may belong to any party. They also should not look at them in the eyes of party differences. Justice should be meted out and those who come with complaints should be entertained without looking into their party differences. At this juncture he also told the gathering that he would look into the matter and see that justice and fairplay is meted out to all. Minister of Health, Nutrition and Welfare P. Dayaratne said that it's the duty of all of us to extend our fullest support for the peace process. Attitudes of ours including the LTTE will not change immediately. Therefore, we all must be patient and careful when some things go wrong. We must forgive and forget things and also give chances. We must carefully and steadily deal with the peace process if we are to succeed in it, he said. UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrema, Party Secretary N. Senerath Kappukotuwa and several others also spoke. Before the rally Digamadulla District UNP MP M. M. Mustapha took the Ministerial team to Savalakkadai Rice Mill, Sainthamaruthu Boat Yard, Kalmunai Post Office, Paddy Milling Complex, Kittanki Bridge, which were in a ruined state during the times of violence and made a sincere appeal to reconstruct them at the earliest. |
