CEAT-Kelani International Tyres (Pvt) Ltd., the India-Sri Lanka joint venture has entered the 'Off The Road' tyre segment in Sri Lanka with the launch of a range of tyres imported from its parent company in India for heavy duty vehicles.

Branded "CEAT" and "Altura", this range of tyres are for motor graders, payloaders, backho loaders and forklifts, which are used for ground levelling, loading and excavation work, the company announced this week.

"CEAT has always been a dominant player for tyres in the commercial goods carriers sector and we are confident our OTR tyres will be major players in this segment too,"

CEAT's General Manager - Sales and Marketing Ashwin Padukone said. They come in sizes of 6.50-10, 7.00-12, 8.25-15, 12.00-24 for forklifts and 13.00-24, 14.00-24, 17.5-25, 20.5-25 and 16.9-28 for graders and payloaders. The larger sizes in this range are tubeless and the largest tyre 20.5-25 which weighs 133 kgs is close to the height of an adult, and has the capacity to carry a maximum load of 8000 kgs, Mr. Padukone said.

The compatibility of these tyres with a number of popular brands of heavy duty vehicles such as Komatsu, Kawasaki, Hitachi, Cobelko, and TCM has been a reason for their popularity among users in other international markets, he said. The new tyres have been very competitively priced and range from about Rs. 5000 to Rs. 65,000 each.

"There has been no compromise on quality by offering these tyres at such competitive rates. They are capable of working in the roughest of terrain", CEAT's National Sales Manager Anil Seneviratne said. CEAT recently launched two new tyres in Sri Lanka branded XL#1. These tyres were introduced for commercial goods carriers such as trucks, container carriers and bowsers.

CEAT-Kelani International Tyres (Pvt) Ltd., was established in 1999 under the joint venture partnership of Kelani Tyres, Associated Motorways (AMW) and CEAT Ltd., of India.
