Innovative thoughts and concepts vital to build nation - Dr. Rayvatha Wijewardene "The future of innovation does not depend only on the innovative products that we manufacture but also on the continuos improvement of innovative thoughts and concepts said Dr. Rayvatha Wijewardene at E-Club forum 2003 of the university of Moratuwa held recently. The theme of the forum was "Serve humanity through electronics ". We as a nation are not really after innovation ,Everyone must strive to innovate the nation's needs if we are to build the nation through innovation, said Dr Wijewardene. The globalization which the world has achieved today is through inter-dependence and we must share the latest innovations with other nations in order to face the challenge of globalization. Adapting to change is also a part of innovation ,he said. Commenting on the present electronic and engineering sectors in Sri Lanka Dr Wijewardene said that Sri Lanka has achieved commendable results in this regard. He also called upon the students to continuously engage in research and studies to be more innovative. Prof Dayantha S. Wijeyesekera ,Vice Chancellor University of Moratuwa said that a forum for electronic and telecommunication engineers gives a dialogue among a cross section of the university students, past graduates,managers of industry to share their views and thoughts on this subject. We are focussing on building a vital link between the university and the industry he said. Shuhei Anan CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom delivering a speech on "Development of Telecommunication in South Asia said that Sri Lanka within past few years has gone far head in the development of telecommunication infrastructure in the country. He also said that Telecom will introduce state-of-the-art technology to enhance efficiency in all sectors of the country thorough telecommunication facilitates. Prof Malik Ranasinghe,Dean /Faculty of Engineering said that university is taking all efforts to contribute quality human resources to the country. The practical interaction the students maintain with electronic industries during their study period has been very effective and it has given them much courage to face the challenges in the field .. HP launches latest designjet printers Hewlett Packard (HP) launched its latest hp designjet printers to the Sri Lanka's market at a seminar at Hotel Galadari last week. The seminar focussed on the professional use of hp designjetp printers and digital printing industry. "HP printers designed to bring out superior quality with an excellent outlook include scanners ,large printers and digital photographic equipment. "We mainly concentrate on adding quality and colour to architecture, engineering sectors and geographic publications said Jeyakanthan Somasundram ,Business Development Manager of HP Sri Lanka and Maldives Imaging and Printing Group. HP design printers also have all the latest facilities required for multi- tasking printing . The new printers are also manufactured to provide colour accuracy with quality ,excellence and higher speed at printing .The latest additions to the all-in-one printers by HP group is also another significant achievement. Bob Ang, Country Sales Manager,Imaging and Printing Group,Asia Emerging Countries said that they are extremely happy with the market growth for Computer peripherals in Sri Lanka. EPSON Stylus CX3100 is designed to offer full-colour True Border Free printing and copying, offering endless hours of fun for the family saving valuable household space. The EPSON Stylus CX5 100,intended for the business user, cuts down running costs and office space while delivering good features and EPSON DURABrite ink technology. With built-in RAM, the EPSON Stylus CX3100 and CX5100 are able to make multiple copies without having to scan the original as many times. This line of all-in-one products is equipped with EPSON Photo Resolution Performance Management (Photo RPM) to give an unparalleled print resolution of 5760 DPI through a combination of variable ink droplet size and highly accurate ink droplet placement to produce excellent image clarity and detail. With support for the Exif 2.2 format, the two machines ensure that printouts from digital camera shots would be optimised. Incorporating CCD scanning technology, the EPSON Stylus CX3100 and CX5100 both allow for 3-D image profiling and true-to-life colour reproduction. NIBM, Dublin University conduct MIS Degree Course The National Institute of Business and Management NIBM in partnership with the National University of Ireland (University College, Dublin) conducts Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Management Information Systems (MIS) with international standards and improved quality. "NIBM being a Government institution has an obligation towards the nation to provide quality study programs. So we are ready to fulfil that obligation so that those interested to obtain worldwide accepted qualification on IT can go through NIBM, " said Thushantha Wijemanna, the Chairman of NIBM at a press conference held at Galle Face Hotel recently. "The NIBM will continue to tie up with other foreign universities in order to produce quality graduates. We will also targeting in expanding our services to foreign countries. The NIBM has already started its program of studies in the remote areas of Sri Lanka," Wijemanna said. Prof. P. Harrison of UCD who has been a course director for the NIBM said that the same quality and standards maintained at UCD are followed at the NIBM as well. We maintain 50-50 partnership with the NIBM, Prof. Harrison said. He also commended the efforts taken by Lankan students to meet the international quality standards. "The degree granted by US is fully recognised all over the world and it will also be accepted as a qualification for a postgraduate course, said Dr. Martin Butler the present Course Director for NIBM. This area can be updated to provide any other customer required information. This application also provides the added benefit and avoids the hassle of preparing manual documents and minimise on the stationery usage, cutting down on manpower and costs. The application is integratable with any workflow management tool to enable approvals, recommendations and rejections - online. The application/information is secure with access only to authorised users.
