Workshop to finalise Action Plan for children affected by N/E war Senior officials of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the Government of Sri Lanka, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and other international agencies will meet in Kilinochchi during April 10-11 for a two-day workshop to finalise the Action Plan to restore normalcy for children affected by the war and work out the operational details; a UNICEF news release said. The Action Plan will include issues relating to child labour, street children and reintegrating underage recruits into their communities. The workshop is the culmination of several months of work between the LTTE and UNICEF who have been holding discussions on the needs and plight of children affected by war in the North East. This process was fully supported of the Government. The workshop is facilitated by UNICEF, and will bring together those committed to assist children affected by the war. The Action Plan is based on the guiding principles of working in the best interest of the child, ensuring that children should be with their families and promoting an integrated approach to address the needs of all children affected by war in the North East. Among the specific issues to be discussed will be, Training and awareness campaign on child rights. Reintegration of underage recruits into their families and communities, Micro-credit and income generation activities, and Vocational training, Education, Health and nutrition, and the provision of Psychosocial care. |
