Four soccerities play in Male N.U. Abdul Razzak reporting from the Maldives The skipper of the Sri Lankan under 23 team and the member of the national team Chatura Maduranga and three other members of the national team of Sri Lanka have joined the four leading division one football clubs for this season here in Male, the capital city of the Maldives. Twenty two year old midfield, Chatura, who plays for Saunders in Sri Lanka has joined the club Valencia for the second time as he played for this club along with the national team skipper Dudley Steinwell last year. The other midfield player, twenty two year old Mohamed Asmeer who plays for Negombo Youth has proved himself as the right selection for this club "Victory" by claiming the man of the match award in a division one encounter held in Male a few days ago. The Sri Lankan national goal keeper Sandhun Devendra, a Police Sub Inspector by profession has contracted to play for the New Radiant Sports Club which beat the Airforce in the Asian Football Championship League Qualifying Round played in Male last September. The fourth Sri Lankan who found a place to play in Male is the 24 year old striker Niroshan Abeysekara who plays for Renown SC in Sri Lanka. He has joined the club I.F.C. There were five Lankan soccerites in action for the Division one Clubs in Male last year. |
